Elvis Presley dearly loved his own mother Gladys, and her early death was the greatest tragedy of his life. One of the songs Elvis dedicated to Gladys was “Mama Liked The Roses” in 1957 for his Christmas album. He re-recorded it in 1969 and was a staple of his concerts. The song lyrics go: “Oh, Mama liked the roses in such a special way; Upon Elvis’s instructions, Gladys’s room at Graceland was exactly as she left it during Elvis’s lifetime and has been recreated in Graceland today. His very first recording at Sun Records in Memphis on July 18, 1953, was recorded not for the public, but for his Mama. Elvis sang in his first recorded song, “My Happiness:” “Whether skies are gray or blue, Be with your Mom or your children’s Mom on Mother’s Day weekend, whether in person or memory.
