Description

Paris.  1941.  The emotionally volatile artist, Pablo Picasso (Dana Packard) has been summoned by German Occupation Leaders to a basement vault for questioning.  His interrogator is the enigmatic and beautiful Miss Fischer (Jennifer Porter) a cultural attaché from Berlin.  Her assignment is to discover which, if any, of the three possibly Picasso paintings recently confiscated by the Nazis, is authentic. The Ministry of Propaganda has planned an exhibition and will trust only the great artist himself to confirm whether the works are genuine.  At first, Picasso seems to comply, but when Miss Fischer realizes he is not being entirely truthful with her, a perilous, high-stakes game of cat and mouse ensues between the two powerful adversaries, in this suspense-filled play about art, politics, sex, and truth.  Don’t miss this rare duo performance by the founders of The Originals, as they reprise their critically acclaimed 2016 production!

Artful, remarkable and genuinely dramatic, with impressive sensitivity and wit.” – NY Daily News

Sex, art, Nazis, and a classy twentieth century icon, all wrapped up like a tasty cultural burrito.  Expertly done.”   - The Star Ledger

“ ‘A Picasso’ at Saco River Theatre is a highly engrossing, thought-provoking hour of theater.”  - Steve Feeney, Portland Press Herald - April 18, 2016
