October 13 The Power of Singing: Global

The four sections of this concert represent four disparate moments in

political history, and from many cultures. In common is the use of

singing for political purposes. The four sections are 1) the ‘Singing

Revolution’ in the Baltic countries; 2) the Revolutionary War in the United

States: 3) the Holocaust where music provided comfort; 4) Civil Rights

movement (1954-1968) in the United States.

December 1 The Power of Singing: Festive Holidays

Welcome the holiday season with our concert of both new and familiar

tunes, celebrating Christmas and Hanukkah. Featuring an audience

sing-a-long, this is the perfect concert to celebrate the holiday season

with the whole family.

March 9 The Power of Singing: Poetry and Music

Most choral composers, either working independently or with a libretttist,

are inspired to write vocal music that is text-driven. And the music is

written in a supportive way to enhance the text. Vocal music is often

said to contain “word painting” (16th century term) or to musically

“relay the text” (modern term). And this is what our concert on Poetry

and Music is about. Poets represented include William Shakespeare,

Francesco Petrarca, Christina Rosetti, and e.e.cummings,

June The Power of Singing: Celebrating Lexington

We are the Lexington Chamber Chorale and, with this designation,

we are delighted to help the city of Lexington celebrate its 250th

birthday. Repertoire will be representative of our city’s history, of the

beautiful bluegrass state, and of our equine history. It is appropriate that

this concert will be held on the grounds of Ashland, the Henry Clay Estate.

This concert is free and open to the public; no ticketing required.
