Description

Due to popular demand from our patrons and SSO members alike, the Orchestra returns to one of the most popular of all romantic symphonies, Dvorak’s “From the New World” Symphony, his 9th.   This work, written by Dvorak during his time spent in NYC and Iowa in the early 1890’s, is full of familiar tunes and his feelings about America.

We are pleased that Dr. Neil Anderson-Himmelspach has written a work for the SSO, untitled at this writing (July 2015).   The composer, known to many from his time teaching music at HCC and known as Dr. Spach, has now transferred his talents to TCU and their electronic music program.

German romantic composer Max Bruch wrote his short but lovely Concerto for Clarinet, Viola, and Orchestra for his son, a clarinetist, in 1911.  Harford County soloists, Joel Weszka and Viktor Khodyko, will join us for this performance!  Joel has studied clarinet at Towson University, Peabody Conservatory, Temple University, and in Berlin.  Viktor joined the SSO two years ago as principal violist.  Viktor was principal violist of the professional orchestra SWR Radio Orchestra Kaiserslautern in Germany and he has recorded the solo part with that orchestra!
