Description
Stanford White was the most famous architect in New York City who designed many houses for the rich, in addition to numerous civic, institutional, and religious buildings. Although he was known as a great architect, he was also known as a sexual predator. White concealed his sexual predation behind the façade of being a “respectably” married man. White was murdered in public by the husband of one of his victims, during a musical theater performance at one of his own buildings, an earlier iteration of Madison Square Gardens. In any ranking of New York society scandals, the White affair is quite possibly the all-time number one. |
